Am Ende des Jah...

1991 /
The Swiss Daniel Glaser spent a short time in Dresden in 1991. His gaze as a "stranger" on the effects of change is very direct: he detects and questions and uncovers absurdities. The video artist about his film: "I happened to visit Dresden in 1991 for a few days. I became aware of the current topic of street renaming at that time. As a Swiss citizen, I found many things exotic in Dresden at the time: for example, that Dresdeners who had lived in the same house for decades received a new residential address with each change of power. Because the fact that street names were changed several times in the last century [...] had something eerily absurd for me and at the same time something comedic. It quickly became clear - I want to make a film about it! [...] I have opposed the documentary aspect with my personal view. At that time I felt the hope of some people that the East of Germany could perhaps go its own new way and should not let itself be totally united by the West. I agreed with that view. But what would have been the other way back then?" KF
