attika

1986 /
Movement and standstill, observation and fixation in two pictorial spaces of a parallel projection of Super-8. After the end of the GDR, Knoefel consistently reaches for the video, the possibilities of which have already been simulated here. KF

Bergmänner

1986 /
Original title: Miners

DIE ÄLTESTE

1986 /
The oldest briquette factory in Senftenberg, a Cottbus fashion show at TKC and a Nosferatu adaptation - the GDR amateur film was extremely diverse. The Filmmuseum Potsdam gives an insight into the project "Amateurfilm im Land Brandenburg". In 1986 the GDR briquette factory "Morgenrot" was demolished. The blasting of the 115-year-old "lady" marks the end of an age.

Die Flut

1986 /
Two men sit on an island and enjoy the sunset. A storm is coming up. They decide to build a boat. While one recognizes the danger and urges to hurry, the other gets bogged down, looks for decorative accessories and perishes in the floods. An animated metaphor for a lack of strength and determination. The story is based on a Chinese fable and is accompanied by self-recorded compositions of the internationally renowned jazz percussionist Günter "Baby" Sommer. Før gæsterne ko...

1986 /
The last preparations for the season in a small hotel at the North Sea. Led by an elderly lady and kept in good shape by her only employee, who is no longer the youngest, this house somehow remained stylistically stuck in the early 1960s. Perhaps it was this marginalisation in the tourist area that attracted Bang Carlsen to the project. Nothing here is situational, random or unplanned. Each shot was carefully built, the movements of the two women orchestrated, the dialogues and texts so convincingly developed that a universal truth about the transience of things appears behind the simple image of an ageing family hotel. A melancholic look of the director at a jewel, even though a bit dusty, that the film preserves and hands down to posterity like in a time capsule. Matthias Heeder

Meet the People

1986 /
14 men and women, typical urban contemporaries, seem to be gripped by everyday life and confront us as individual "talking heads" in front of a running camera with their private views and reflections on work, love, happiness and the future. At the end we have to recognize ourselves as observers of a virtuoso acting ensemble that acts according to a script by Shelly Silver. "Meet the People" does not tell an authentic story, but is a refined narrative about authenticity. Not more, but above all not less! Training unit with high efficiency. Ralph Eue

winter adé

1986 /
A train journey from Zwickau to Saßnitz. Helke Misselwitz questions women about their dreams and concrete life experiences; the discrepancy is enormous. Thus the journey becomes a journey through a country that got on the wrong track on its way to utopia and is about to end. A classic of the GDR documentary film. A film about women at Misselwitz is never just a film about women. She is concerned about the whole life that constitutes a human being, also about the formative circumstances in the past. A train journey leads from Zwickau to Saßnitz, to very different women, old and young, in factories and apartments, a dance school, the Jugendwerkhof, a children's home. Life in a country that wanted to realize a utopia and got off on the wrong track somewhere is depleting itself of many facets. Nevertheless: Winter adé - a classic of the GDR documentary film. KF

Wuj Měrćin – mo...

1986 /
Goblins, the Serpent King, the Midday Woman, again and again the Aquarius and of course Master Krabat accompanied the life and work of the painter Měrćin Nowak-Njechorński (Martin Nowak-Neumann). At a meeting with children, the artist talks about his work, his career and the rich world of Sorbian legends and fairy tales. Instead of his name, he signed all his works with the lime leaf, which plays an important role as a symbol for the Sorbs. "Every Sorbian child knows that Master Nowak-Neumann is the father of all good dwarves and goblins," says the film, which was intended to introduce the painter's work to a wider audience in East Germany with a Sorbian and German-language version - quite apart from the fact that almost every child in the GDR knew his pictures. A loving portrait of a painter whose pictures of Sorbian mythical figures with bulbous noses influenced generations of children, for the youngest presented by an animated goblin. GL
